Apparently leaving Fnatic after two seasons with an LEC team is YamatoCannon.
Jakob “YamatoCannon” Mebdi, the main League of Legends coach for Fnatic, is allegedly leaving the company after two seasons. According to a rumor from Alejandro Gomis of Blix.gg, Fnatic is planning to promote and recruit replacement coaches at both the LEC and ERL levels for the 2023 season, leaving YamatoCannon on the market.
Gonçalo “Crusher” Pinto Brando, who currently serves as the head coach of the franchise’s ERL-level squad, Fnatic TQ, which participates in the Spanish Superliga, will allegedly act as the head coach of Fnatic’s LEC team for the next season.
Joshua “Jarge” Smith, a long-time coach with teams in Europe and North America, including Excel, Team Liquid, and most recently, Movistar Riders, will apparently fill Crusher’s vacuum at Fnatic TQ. Jarge served as an analyst for Fnatic during the 2015 season, therefore his rumored switch to the organization’s ERL-level club would signal a reunion that had been planned for over eight years.
Regarding YamatoCannon, the skilled coach will put himself back out there for the first time since the offseason of 2020–21. In his two years with Fnatic, he helped the team reach the LEC playoffs in four of the possible splits, finished in the top three three times, and qualified for Worlds twice.
When YamatoCannon joined Liiv SANDBOX in 2020, he made history by being the first Western League coach ever to be hired as the head coach in Korea’s LCK. He only played for the squad for one split, but he made a name for himself in the east. At the moment, it’s unknown whether YamatoCannon will ever go back to Korea. After the 2020 season, he left the area and went back to the LEC, claiming “personal issues.”
According to the League worldwide contract database, YamatoCannon’s agreement with Fnatic will end on November 21.
