Content creators are always quick to voice their opinions about video games, and sometimes they have a good point.

Popular YouTube creator CouRageJD started out commentating over Call of Duty esports but has since expanded to streaming and video uploading in games like CoD, Apex Legends, and Fortnite. And it’s the latter battle royale game that had CouRage annoyed recently.

“The number one priority for Fortnite HAS to be reducing the amount of AI in public games,” the streamer said on Twitter/X this afternoon. “It’s killing the thrill of the game, ruins any excitement around content, and drags out games while searching for lingering AI. It’s unacceptable that Warzone and Apex pubs are SO much better than Fortnite.

While the assumed inclusion of AI, or bots, in multiplayer games like battle royale has seemingly been commonplace for some time, publishers and developers rarely address it or confirm that it even exists.

But for seasoned players like CouRage and anyone else who’s put in the hours, it’s relatively easy to see an opponent who, at the very least, is behaving like an AI. It’s assumed that bots are added to games to fill out lobbies and help with matchmaking times when players would otherwise be waiting for a while.

If the Fortnite bot problem is as bad as CouRage says it is, it could be turning players away. Odds are that most of the game’s casual player base doesn’t recognize or have an issue with the problem, and it only seems magnified as a content creator who plays for several hours a day.

Do you face off against bots in your Fortnite lobbies, or are they just children playing on Nintendo Switch? It can be hard to tell sometimes, but if CouRage is right, there may be reason to flock to other battle royale games already.
