Atlanta FaZe will receive sweet retribution against Los Angeles Thieves in the CDL Boston Grand Finals rematch.
On Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Thieves defeated the reigning Call of Duty League Boston Major winners to exact some form of retribution on the Atlanta FaZe. Los Angeles prevailed this time, albeit for lower stakes, in the season’s second Major grand final rematch, which saw Atlanta capture the title with a 4-2 victory against Los Angeles.
The Thieves won the opening map of the series, the Mercado Hardpoint, 250–172, because to an outstanding performance by Envoy, who led Los Angeles with 23 kills to just 18 fatalities. Atlanta lost the game, but their top player, Simp, gave it his all and went 23-14 on the field for a 1.64 K/D.
FaZe sprung into action in El Asilo Search and Destroy despite being down 1-0 in the series. Atlanta cruised to a 6-1 victory to level the series thanks to 8-3 and 8-4 efforts from SlasheR and aBeZy. After just seven rounds of SnD, every member of the FaZe squad contributed to the team’s overall success, which was +14 in the killing category.
That was the Drazah and Envoy show in the third episode of the series, Hotel Control. In the 3-2 L.A. triumph, the AR and SMG pair totaled 58 kills to only 34 fatalities, producing identical stat lines of 29-17. Atlanta had to win another respawn after the Thieves gained a 2-1 lead in order to advance to a crucial game five and a Search and Destroy for the crucial match. Octane and Drazah, unfortunately, were in charge.
On the fourth map in the series, Embassy Hardpoint, it was initially a back-and-forth battle, with Atlanta and Los Angeles staying within a few points of one another during the map’s initial rotations. The Thieves, however, won the rotation to P2 following a chaotic Hardpoint at the P1, positioning themselves for a significant length of time on the hill. FaZe did succeed in cutting the gap to just 100 points, but L.A. ultimately won the rematch.
In the 250-195 triumph that gave Los Angeles a 3-1 series lead, Drazah and Octane both had 27 kills compared to 20 and 21 deaths, respectively. With a 1.20 series K/D and more over 8,600 worth of damage dealt at the Hardpoint, Drazah outperformed every other player in the room. The victory gives L.A. satisfaction for losing to Atlanta in the championships earlier this month, but more significantly, it puts them back on course for the third round of qualifying for the season.
When Atlanta plays the London Royal Ravens on Friday, February 24 at 2pm CST, they will have an opportunity to get back on track.
The CDL is getting closer to its third big event of the 2023 season as the Thieves and Seattle Surge square off on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3.30 p.m. CST.
