Former Marvel Manager Disputes Extreme Budget Claims About Deadpool Game
A former mamager from Marvel who worked on the 2013 Deadpool game by High Moon Studios and Activision recently disputed a rumor about the game’s budget, which claimed the game cost $100 million to produce and develop. Many gamers have been revisiting 2013’s Deadpool, after the title character’s third movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, premiered in theaters. The game was first released in 2013 for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, and later got a remaster on PS4 and Xbox One to tie-in with the 2016 Deadpool film, but has since been delisted.
Activision and High Moon Studio’s Deadpool game was recently the subject of a retrospective video by Alex Webb, which went over its history and development, along with a brief review of the game. One of the things that was covered in the video was the game’s budget, with it allegedly having a budget of $100 million dollars, taken from various reports about the game. However, former Marvel manager Chris Baker, spoke out about this, wishing to put to rest this common misconception that has been perpetuated about the Merc With a Mouth’s video game.
Baker recently took to Twitter asking fans and other journalists to “squash” the rumor of Deadpool supposedly costing $100 million to produce, with the first piece of evidence about this claim being an unsourced GameSpot article from 2015. According to Baker, $100 million would be “GTA-level” money, when its telling that Deadpool was made on a much smaller budget in comparison. Baker speculates that the most likely reason why this figure is even floated around nowadays is Deadpool‘s fourth-wall breaking joke that shows the game’s supposed budget.
The Possible Origin Of Deadpool’s Supposed $100 Million Budget
The earliest "evidence" I can find of this off-base assertion is this dead @GameSpot article from 2015. No source is cited. https://t.co/DfevcAHCjc

I wasn't privy to the actual budget, but $100 million is GTA-level money, at least back then.

And thank you personally, @JackGYarwood.
One note about that "in-game budget": If you look closely, it's nine digits. And if you don't look closely enough, you won't see the decimal point.
I can see someone assuming it starts at $100M and the rest is the joke. Maybe? pic.twitter.com/4Wp9o0AzAM— Chris Baker | ScorpionVader.com (@cbake76) July 30, 2024
The counter shows that the “budget” was a nine digit figure, but if one doesn’t look at it closely enough, there is a decimal point, with Baker theorizing that someone could assume it starts at $100 million and the rest being a part of the joke. The final counter ends at $7.5 million, which Baker believes is a more reasonable figure. While Baker doesn’t know the final figure, the delisted Deadpool game, while expensive to produce, likely didn’t cost $100 million to develop.
