GTA 6 Trailer Hits Another Astonishing Milestone
The first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer has surpassed 200 million views. This astonishing milestone was recorded shortly following the seven-month anniversary of the GTA 6 reveal.
The sixth mainline entry in the long-running open-world franchise was initially scheduled to be unveiled on December 6, 2023. But Rockstar ultimately released the GTA 6 trailer a day early after a low-quality version of the video leaked online. The promo had already garnered 93 million views on YouTube by December 6, setting a new viewership record for a 24-hour debut of any non-music video on the Google-owned platform.
GTA 6 Trailer Hits 200 Million Views In 7 Months
The trailer is still enjoying decent momentum, having just surpassed 200 million views on YouTube. The new milestone was recorded in the late evening hours ET on July 13, so exactly seven months and eight days following the video’s premiere. Its viewership influx has slowed down considerably over the past few months, with the video needing nearly a week to go from 199 million to 200 million views. Be that as it may, this milestone is yet another piece of evidence cementing the Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer as one of the most popular video game previews ever produced.
The video still has plenty of time to improve its current viewership record, as the game itself is currently more than a year away from hitting the market. Specifically, Rockstar parent Take-Two Interactive narrowed down the Grand Theft Auto 6 release window back in May, revealing that the much-anticipated GTA 5 sequel is targeting a fall 2024 launch. The game will ostensibly receive several more trailers in the meantime, all of which have the potential to draw new and returning viewers to its original reveal trailer. That’s precisely what happened with GTA 5, whose first trailer is still its most-watched YouTube promo video, boasting 111 million views as of July 2024.
GTA 5 received exactly six trailers prior to its release, with the first two being one year apart. Some industry watchers expect Rockstar to follow a similar marketing pattern with its upcoming game, predicting the second Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer to debut in or around December 2024, followed by another promo in spring 2025. The company’s track record indicates that the first extended look at the GTA 6 gameplay will plausibly be offered as part of the game’s third or fourth trailer, presumably no later than summer 2025.
The game itself has so far only been confirmed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. PC gamers will hence likely have to wait until at least 2026 before they’re able to play GTA 6.
