Details of Intel’s next-gen Arrow Lake-S desktop CPU platform have been leaked and pointed out up to 24 cores on the 800-series motherboards.

Intel Arrow Lake-S Platform Leak: CPUs With Up To 24 Cores, 8 IA Cores, 800-Series Motherboards, Faster DDR5 Support

The latest platform leak comes from YuuKi_AnS who has published internal documents of the upcoming Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPU platform. While we know a lot about the Intel Arrow Lake CPUs already, it looks like we have a better look at what the platform is going to offer.

Starting with the CPUs, the Intel Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs will feature the Lion Cove P-Core and Skymont E-Core architecture. These chips will feature up to 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores for a total of 24 cores and 32 threads so similar to the existing 14th and 13th Gen flagship CPUs. The chips will come in up to 125W PL1 TDPs and feature a 3.5 GHz base clock at max (Pre-Alpha state). The CPUs will also get the latest GT1 Xe-LPG iGPU but with reduced Xe-cores compared to the ones featured on Meteor Lake CPUs. Interestingly, Intel separately mentions 8 IA cores with 8 threads and they are mentioned to be disabled in the 125W variant.

According to a previously leaked slide, the Intel Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs offer a 5% IPC increase and a 15% increase in multi-threaded performance. There’s also mention of the new P-Cores & E-Cores which we already know are based upon the Lion Cove and Skymont architectures. The CPUs will also feature up to 50% larger L2 cache as we reported earlier.

  • Arrow Lake-S (Lion Cove P-Core) – 3 MB L2 Cache Per Core
  • Raptor Lake-S (Raptor Cove P-Core) – 2 MB L2 Cache Per Core
  • Alder Lake-S (Golden Cove P-Core) – 1.25 MB L2 Cache Per Core

The slide mentions the family as the 15th Gen lineup so either it could be old or the company still uses the older branding for the desktop family. The Intel laptop CPUs have shifted to a new Core Utlra & Core series which has reset the branding to 1st Gen. The Arrow lake-S CPUs are also listed as pre-Alpha state and have issues within the BIOS that are said to be resolved in a future stepping.

As for the platform, Intel will be offering Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs on its brand new LGA 1851 socketed motherboards with the 800-series PCH which includes the Z890, H870, B860, and H810 series. The top motherboards will feature up to DDR5-6400 memory and the platform diagram reveals two more SKUs with 6+8 and 6+16 configurations.

  • Arrow Lake-S 8+16 (24 Cores / 32 Threads)

The new desktop platform will be able to support much higher memory speeds natively with up to 6400 MT/s mentioned in a dual-channel configuration. The CPUs will have native x16 PCIe Gen5 dGPU and x4 PCIe Gen5 M.2 lanes plus an additional x4 Gen4 PCIe lanes for M.2. Breaking down the CPU and PCH I/O, we have:

Intel’s Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs are positioned for launch for gaming platforms such as desktop PCs later this year and will be competing against AMD’s Zen 5-based Ryzen “Granite Ridge” CPUs as they are also in production and expected to be deployed in 2H 2024. Stay tuned for more info.
