Microsoft’s Auto Auto SR will be confined to a few games at launch as the firm looks to focus on Copilot+ PCs and the emerging ARM platform.

Microsoft’s Auto SR Will Be Limited To Certain Games At Launch, But The List Will Eventually Expand

Microsoft’s Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) took the headlines a few days ago when it was initially disclosed that the firm was working on an upscaling solution as an easy alternative to mainstream options such as NVIDIA’s DLSS, AMD’s FSR & Intel’s XeSS.

Auto SR will enable higher frame rates in existing games in real-time while also enhancing the visual detail displayed on your screen, and instead of relying on GPU compute performance, the technology will leverage NPU AI capabilities, which is why it makes sense to limit it to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform for now.

Well, it’s a bummer to see Auto SR being limited to a certain platform, Microsoft has plans to expand its ‘Copilot+” range of PCs into lineups such as Intel’s Lunar Lake and AMD’s Strix APUs, considering they will come with bumped up AI performance, exceeding the 100 TOPS mark in case of Intel. Furthermore, Microsoft is also working with GPU vendors including NVIDIA and AMD to fast-track Auto SR for discrete graphics solutions.

Along with the platform limitation, Microsoft previously revealed that Auto SR will be available to a curated set of games, and now we might have an idea of what titles will receive the “exclusive” treatment, courtesy of additional details on “Worksonwoa.com”, which stands for “Works on Windows on Arm”. The site basically gives a rundown of titles that are compatible with the Windows-Arm crossover.

Well, the site shows plenty of titles receiving Auto SR support out-of-box, so it’s great news for gamers looking for the optimal ARM experience. Titles such as Borderlands 3 and God of War (2018) have been included in the list, and you can view the complete collection below:

  • 7 Days to Die
  • BeamNG drive
  • Borderlands 3
  • Control
  • Dark Souls III
  • God of War
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance
  • Resident Evil 2
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Sekiro: Shadows Die
  • Twice Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Auto SR opt-in support will also be available in certain titles such as Shadow of The Tomb Raider & Skyrim Special Edition.

Well, the list is certainly not bad, and while you can use Auto SR with any title, it’s important to note that it will only work perfectly with those that feature support for it. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft’s Auto SR challenges the competitors in the industry, and how big of a role AI compute actually plays in this case. There is no word on the preset, quality or performance but comparisons with modern day upscaling technologies will be a crucial thing.
